Sami Midwood M.A.
Registered Psychological Associate

Supervised by Tanya Hilber, PsyD, PMH-C PSY24479

I am a awaiting my Registration with the Board of Psychology as a Registered Psychological Associate (PSB) and am currently supervised by Dr. Tanya Hilber, Licensed Psychologist (PSY24479). I have obtained a master’s degree in educational and developmental psychology from Monash University in Australia. I have recently (2024) relocated from Melbourne, Australia and am excited to become apart of the San Diego community. As a therapist, I am committed to helping individuals (and their families) to better understand themselves, and their brains, so they can best navigate the world around them and achieve their personal goals.

In my work, I provide a client-centered approach and am passionate about creating meaningful change and supporting people to thrive in their individual, social and educational environments. I aim to create a comfortable and affirming environment, by tapping into people’s interests, understanding their story, and meeting them where they’re at currently.

Clinical Experience

I have predominantly worked as a child and adolescent psychologist in Australia, in a few different settings including private practice, schools and in outreach.

I specialise in working with Anxiety (including Selective Mutism and OCD), Low Mood or Depression, Self-Esteem/Confidence and Stress Management, whilst also having extensive experience working in the neurodivergent space (i.e., Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, etc.). In my therapy work, I incorporate aspects of evidence-based frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS). Outside of therapy, I also have experience facilitating psychoeducational assessments, interest-led group programs, and parent/school workshops mainly within the neurodivergent space.

Outside of work all together, I love being surrounded by nature and am very excited to explore some of your beautiful national parks. I also enjoy baking, puzzles, cups of tea and spending time with my friends and family.
